It seems that none of the included skins (e.g. Aero Metals, Aero Woods, etc.) work.  Why not?  And, why are they included in the program?

Those skins you mentioned aren`t WB skins at all. They are Aero (default Vista and Win7 GUI) with added texture not skins built with their own graphics.

Why they didn`t work, I don`t know.......

It seems I have stumped the techs at Stardock.  I submitted a support ticket on this problem and they told me to verify the WB installation thru Impulse.  I did and it verified that it was correctly installed.  That was Monday and since I told them that, they have not responded.

After talking to the SD techs, they asked me if the included skin is a uis0 or uis2.  I didn't know this distinction so I checked and some of the included skins are uis0 (e.g. aero wood) and others are are uis2 (e.g. sabertooth).  The uis2 skins work but the uis0 skins don't.  I told them that.  I'm waiting for their reply to this.

I think I replied to you earlier today.  UIS 0 skins work differently than UIS2, in that they are just a texture replacement and not replacing the whole UI.  This could be easily affected by other theming software, are you running any?

Also, something I just realized I left out of the ticket.  Are you running with Aero glass enabled?  I think the Aero Basic won't work with UIS0.

Hi Shirley,  What do you mean by Aero Glass enabled?  Where do I enable that?

on Apr 01, 2011

I googled this aero glass enabling and found some answers that basically had me check the windows experience index.  I did so and it's a 5.0.  So, that means aero glass is enabled.  I'm not running any other theming software either.  Bottom line is that uis0 skins just don't work for me.  At least not after restarting my computer.  I've reinstalled WB a few times now and each time I do, the uis0 skins work until I restart my computer.  Very weird.

To display Aero effects such as transparency in Windows 7, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that Windows Experience Index has been calculated and computed.
  2. Click on Start menu.
  3. Type the following text into the Start Search box:  Aero
  4. Click on a search result listing under Control Panel group that named as the following:

Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects

  • · Trick: If you don’t see “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” in the search results, click on Control Panel to see all Aero related items in Control Panel.

5.  An “Aero – Troubleshoot computer problems” wizard dialog will appear. Click on Next button.

6.  The troubleshooting wizard will try to detect any problem by running a series of checks against various components required to make Aero works and running, such as video memory, Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) service, color depth, theme, power settings and etc. At the end of the analysis, the wizard will attempt to fix the issues related to Aero service and restart the Aero feature.

Tip: If there is still items that are marked with Red Cross which indicates is the problems that prevent Aero from working properly, fix the issues and then rerun the “Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects” troubleshooting wizard again.

Tip: To create a shortcut to ‘Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects’, right click on it on search results, and then click on Open file location. On the “All Tasks” window opened, right click on Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects again, and select Create Shortcut to place the shortcut on desktop.

DC: I did all that and I don't have any problems/issues with my Aero.

If it makes you feel any better bachbeet, none of the UIS0 skins work on my Windows 7 64-bit either.

Well, I guess "misery loves company."  The others (some here and the tech guys) are telling me they do work.  The tech people can't find a solution and insist that they still should work.  Fact is they don't.  Not on mine and apparently not on yours.  Makes me think there is an error with the new uis0 format and Win 7 64 bit.  And, I don't think Stardock is aware of this error.  They should be so that they can find a solution and fix it for the next build of WB7.  Or simply eliminate those included skins that are uis0 and maybe include some that are uis2 instead.  Forget the uis0 format.

OK, after persistent help from the techs at SD (mainly Curt) we figured it out.  To apply a uis0 skin properly, one needs to first apply the default Win7 theme.  I had to do it thru the Win7 Personalize screen.  Then, all the uis0 skins work/look as they do in the previews.  If one switches to a uis2 skin after that (I switched to C5) and then tries to apply a uis0, it will look like Windows Classic, very bland.  It seems that the uis2 skins apply Classic as an underlying theme and the uis0 skins need the standard Aero skin.  Hope this helps anyone else (e.g. Lightstar).

Bachbeet

if you can in stall your OS on a new partion

then install Impluse then WB.

then if it works you will know something is causing it not to work on the other partion.

then you could install stuff one -by -one to see what program it is.

I just did it here cause WB's Explorer Backgournds will not work on my win 7 Home Premium 64bit

but it's now working on my Win 7 Ult. 32 bit same PC just 2 partions.

now I just have to find what is causing it not to work on 7 Home Premium 64bit..

I know it's a Pain in the ass but it should tell you what is causing it...

note If you do, Do it load a skin that you do know that works and then one that you know that is not working and restart after EVER program

EDIT never mine I just seen your last post...
